Jan Carlsson was on August 30 elected chairman of the international steering committee (ISC) of EMC Europe. The ISC has around 25 members from all around Europe with the main task to organize the annually occurring international symposium EMC Europe. The symposium is organized in various cities around Europe with the help of a local organizing committee. This year the symposium was held in Amsterdam and attracted 450 delegates from more than 40 countries. The symposium was held in Gothenburg 2014 and will be returning 2022 when Provinn will be deeply involved as both chair and co-chair of the local organizing committee.
Provinn organized together with Test Site Sweden and AstaZero the Testers’ Day at the proving ground in Hällered, Sweden, on Wednesday, 28th March 2018. This is a yearly occurring event for test engineers and test experts in the automotive industry with focus on automated driving. Provinn is partner in the recently granted Vinnova FFI research project “Virtual Electric Propulsions System Design and EMC - VEPS”. The project has two main objectives: (i) virtual product development and (ii) virtual testing with respect to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure of human beings. Project coordinator is Volvo Car Corporation and other project partners are Chalmers University of Technology, Modelon AB and Provinn AB. The project duration is four years.Show more Hide

Thomas Tunberg has been appointed Senior Advisor to the Management Team of Provinn. Thomas has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology. He has a long background from different managerial positions within the Volvo Group. For example, he was responsible for Powertrain Product Development for 7 years. On January 31, Huawei in collaboration with Provinn arranged a Microwave Road Event at the office on Kvarnbergsgatan. The event was a big success with more than 80 persons attending the evening seminar and the mingle afterwards. The theme of the event was 5G and over-the-air testing with presentations from Huawei, Aalborg University, Saab, Bluetest and Chalmers/RanLOS. On February 8, Provinn and Volvo Car Corporation will present some of the results from the Vinnova FFI-project eVAMS at the Vehicle ICT Arena – Innovation Bazaar. The title of the presentation is “eVAMS: EMC test methods for ADAS and AD functions”. The Innovation Bazaar at Lindholmen Science Park was created in 2013 with the idea in mind that innovation starts with personal relationships and creativity. The actors need to meet, present research results, ideas and products, discuss trends and customer needs.
Provinn welcomes Konstantinos Prionidis as a new team member. Konstantinos holds a masters degree from Chalmers and has about four years of experience as consultant in design and evaluation of wireless systems for mobile networks. He has worked with research to enhance the capacity of next generation cellular networks and his work includes antenna design, measurements, development and evaluation of antenna-array related algorithms and wireless channel modeling. Konstantinos will strengthen Provinn´s ability to provide our customers with help within antennas and communication systems.

Jan Carlsson from Provinn was one of in total fifteen invited professors from all around Europe giving presentation at the Huawei Antenna Technology Summit. The event was held at the historic Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, October 18-19.

The Vinnova funded FFI research project eVAMS (EMC Validation of Multiple Sensor systems) presented the results from two years of research and development at a gathering at RISE in Borås on June 16. The event attracted many colleagues from the vehicle and EMC communities in Sweden for a full day of presentations, demos and a lab visit. Provinn welcomes Jarl Törnkvist as a new team member. Jarl has more than 15 years of experience from environmental testing within the telecommunication industry. This includes areas such as EMC, PLD, Climate and Vibration. Estimation of test scope, configuration of test object, performance of test and documentation has been his responsibilities. Jarl will strengthen Provinn´s ability to provide our customers with help within environmental testing and EMC.
Provinn was helping a racing team with their preparations for WTCC 2017 at the Algarve racing track in Portugal. During the tests, we used equipment from OxTS, a GNSS/GPS/INS positioning system with high precision. Provinn is since two years partner with OxTS (Oxford Technical Solutions).Show more Hide
As a part of our ambition to offer advanced missions within EMC and antennas, Provinn has invested in computer resources and software for numerical simulations. Based on our earlier experience and to be able to cover as many application areas as possible, the choice of software became CST Microwave Studio 2016/2017.
As a part of the FFI financed research project eVAMS, Provinn together with the project partners’ SP and VCC performed tests with a radar simulation system provided by Rhode & Schwarz. The tests took place in the large EMC chamber Faraday at SP. The aim of the eVAMS project is to develop EMC test methods for vehicle active safety systems.Show more Hide
The final report of the FFI financed research EMCCOM is now available. EMCCOM - EMC for wireless Communication systems in Vehicles is a project supported by VINNOVA (The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems) and included in the FFI program (Fordonsstrategisk Forskning och Innovation: Fordonsutveckling). The project has last for three years and the partners have been Volvo Car Corporation (VCC), Volvo AB, Provinn AB, Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden. The EMCCOM project addresses several aspects that need answers before large-scale deployment of fully integrated wireless communication technologies can become a reality in vehicles and its full potential can be explored. The focus herein is the wireless technologies 3G (WCDMA/HSDPA), 4G (LTE), GNSS (GPS), WLAN (802.11g) and C-ITS (802.11p), enabling a plethora of new services and applications in the following areas: road traffic safety, road traffic efficiency, telematics, infotainment, manufacturing, and after-market. Jan Carlsson, Provinn and chair of SNRV section A, organized together with Kia Wiklund, FOI and chair of SNRV section E, a joint meeting at Chalmers. The meeting attracted 13 members, and in addition two invited speakers from Chalmers. Beside individual section negotiations and four interesting presentations, the host at Chalmers Jörgen Stenarson gave the attendees a tour in the advanced laboratory facilities at Chalmers, MC2. SNRV, the Swedish National Committee for Radio Science, is an expert committee sorting under KVA (Kungliga Vetenskapsakademien) with the main task to support education and research within the field of radio science. SNRV has 20 members that are appointed by KVA, and in addition some 120 adjunct members.
Provinn has become official partner of Spirent and their systems for GPS/GNSS simulation instruments for the Scandinavian market. The purpose is to provide a local connection and to give better support for customers in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Spirent is a world-leading supplier of accurate, rapid and versatile test technologies for verifying GPS/GNSS performance. The products are used for test, verification and simulation of positioning systems from development to production testing.
Provinn welcomes Jan Carlsson as a new team member. Jan is an experienced specialist with over 30 years of experience in EMC and antenna technology. He has a solid theoretical knowledge and experience of practical measurement techniques, investigative missions, and numerical simulations. He has extensive experience in leading and participating in development and research projects. Jan has a PhD degree from Chalmers and was appointed adjunct professor at the Department of Signals and Systems, Department of antenna systems at Chalmers in 2003, a position he still holds. Jan has developed several simulation software for EMC and antenna applications. Jan has previously been working at SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden for 26 years, where he was responsible for the research at the EMC department. He will now strengthen Provinn’s ability to provide our customers with help within EMC and Antennas, especially concerning more advanced missions and not at least numerical simulations.
